Wildlife, Hiking and Horse Riding

Sani Valley boasts the best wildlife in the area. The entire valley is game-fenced and stocked with an abundance of wildlife. Sani Valley doesn't have the big five, but you will be able to walk among the zebra, wildebeest, eland, springbok and many other antelope. Other game, such as jackals and baboons, are able to pass through from the bordering Heritage site mountains. Often you will wake up to find a herd of Blesbuck in front of your lodge!

The Drakensberg is a hiker's and rider's paradise with an abundance of well-marked trails. Hikers will be fascinated by the magnificent trails
hugging the contour of the slopes. You will also come back for the spectacular routes zigzagging to the top of the escarpment.

Areas outside our boundary fences are either privately owned or controlled by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. Should one wish to hike in these areas permission
is required from the necessary authorities. Hiking permits from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife can be obtained from Sani Valley Lodge or the nearby Sani Pass
Hotel. Some of the more popular hikes are to Balancing Rocks and the nearby Bushman Paintings.

Over and above the hiking in the area Sani Valley boasts the unique ability to go on a game viewing experience on horse back. One is able to experience
the true nature of being close to these wonderful animals without the sound of a noisy vehicle.

Sani Valley also boasts a number of birds, from the Wattled Crane to the Bearded Vulture (Lammergeyer) we have them all. We have built a Vulture
Restaurant that has up to 165 vultures at a time when a fresh carcass has been donated by the local cattle farming community.
